About the Association |
Welcome to the Phantom Lake Alumni Association website, an online resource and forum dedicated to promoting the growth and progress of Phantom Lake YMCA Camp, preserving its history, maintaining its vital camping culture, and providing opportunities for alumni and friends to stay in touch, both with each other and with the camp.
The immediate goal of the Phantom Lake Alumni Association is to promote more immediate and transparent communication between alumni in response to current organizational challenges at PLYC, and to provide an online resource summarizing recent events, sharing related documents, and creating opportunities for constructive contributions from alumni of all generations to the process of determining Phantom Lake YMCA Camp’s future. The larger and longer term goal of the Association is to lay the foundation for a more comprehensive alumni resource, one capable of coordinating volunteer opportunities, raising funds, and recruiting prospective candidates for the PLYC Board of Directors. Furthermore the Phantom Lake Alumni Association actively endorses an immediate and thoroughgoing professional audit of Phantom Lake YMCA Camp’s organizational structure, to be conducted before the search for a new CEO begins, by an independent third party chosen by a conference of the members the Phantom Lake YMCA Camp Board of Directors, a delegation of the Ad Hoc Committee, and a delegation from this Association. On this website you’ll find recent official communications from the PLYC Board of Directors to the Phantom community, all correspondence between the Board of Directors and the Ad Hoc Committee (a committee of concerned former PLYC Board members, major donors, and other stakeholders, convened in June of 2006), all public correspondence from Mike Rule related to his dismissal, a list of upcoming PLYC Events, and links to various other resources. Additionally you’ll find the names and credentials of our growing membership. Membership in the Phantom Lake Alumni Association is open to alumni of any generation or camping experience, from former campers to former Camp Directors. We hope you’ll consider joining, and help us spread the word. As of now the Association has no formal hierarchy, and is simply the coordinated effort of a number of concerned individuals within the alumni community. However, in the interest of achieving our longer term organizational goals it is our intention to seek non-profit status, and to elect officers from within our membership, within the next six months. Welcome. Have a look around, sign up on our mailing list to receive important news and updates, and please get in touch if you have any questions or suggestions. We’d love to hear from you, and we’d love for you to be a part of the Phantom Lake Alumni Association. |
